A height-adjustable workstation for Origin, BenchPilot, and Workstation

How can the Shaper system be integrated into the workshop in a way that ensures work surface, ergonomics, mobility, and storage space work together effectively? Working together with Shaper, this challenge led to the development of a practical workplace solution based on the height-adjustable Supporter worktable from Beck Maschinenbau. The result: a mobile workstation whose height can be flexibly adjusted to suit the user and the task at hand, while also providing space for the Origin, BenchPilot, Workstation, vacuum cleaner, and other accessories.

Ergonomics and Organization at the Shaper Workstation

The idea for the solution arose from the desire for a mobile and ergonomic workstation for working with the Shaper system.

Origin, BenchPilot, and Workstation require sufficient workspace. At the same time, daily use also involves a vacuum cleaner, Systainer, and other accessories. These components should not be left lying around the workspace, but rather integrated directly and effectively into the solution.

The result is a workstation that combines two key features: a flexibly adjustable work height and an interior layout that can be customized to suit individual needs.

The support unit forms the height-adjustable base

The solution is based on the Supporter from Beck Maschinenbau. The worktable can be adjusted to any height using a foot pedal. No power connection is required.

With an adjustment range of 810 to 1100 mm, the working height can be quickly adjusted to suit different users and work situations. The 1600 × 790 mm tabletop provides ample space for the shaper system and the workpiece being machined.

A load capacity of 500 kg provides a sturdy foundation. Four swivel casters make the workstation mobile within the workshop; two of them are lockable.

From a Work Desk to a Customized Shaper Workstation

What makes this solution unique lies beneath the countertop.

The interior has been designed so that the Shaper System’s tools and accessories can be stored right at the workstation. The base unit is divided into two sections: the vacuum cleaner fits on one side, while the Origin, for example, can be stored in the Systainer on the other.

BenchPilot and Workstation are located directly on the countertop and can be removed as needed.

The key advantage: The interior can be customized to meet your specific needs. Carpenters and joiners can design and build the base unit themselves and, for example, tailor the layout, storage space, or dimensions to their existing equipment and personal workflows.

Beck provides the ergonomic foundation—the workshop customizes the workstation to suit its own needs.

In Practice: Installing a Door Hinge Using Origin and BenchPilot

1. Adjust the workpiece to the correct height

The door panel is placed on rolling carts at the workstation and secured with clamps. The Supporter can then be adjusted vertically until the workpiece and the work area are flush with each other.

Instead of adjusting your posture to a fixed work height, this allows you to adapt your workspace to the task at hand.

2. Define the work area and position the milling data

Next, the work area is scanned and rasterized using Origin. The required milling data for the door hinge can be downloaded from ShaperHub and positioned on the digital work area.

3. Perform the milling operation using BenchPilot

When used with BenchPilot, the handheld CNC router is equipped with a controlled feed mechanism. The feed speed can be adjusted on the BenchPilot.

In the documented practical example, the pocket for the door hinge is machined using a 16-mm end mill. A final finishing pass ensures a clean milled surface.

4. A perfect fit for the final result

After milling, the door hinge can be inserted into the prepared pocket and secured.

This is how the two systems complement each other: Shaper supports the precise milling process, while the Beck worktable ensures proper positioning and working height.

A workstation that can be adapted to the workshop

The joint solution from Shaper and Beck demonstrates how a height-adjustable worktable can be transformed into a workstation tailored to a specific work process.

The height adjustment feature promotes an ergonomic working posture. The casters provide flexibility within the workshop. At the same time, machines, exhaust systems, and accessories can be housed directly at the workstation.

And because the interior layout can be customized and built to order, the concept can be adapted to different workshops, equipment setups, and personal needs.
