Safety in workshop practice

Healthy working in the workshop.

To ensure ergonomic working conditions, a height-adjustable work table was placed next to the constantly busy panel cutting saw. The table can be easily reached by forklift through the hall door and is positioned so that there is only a short distance to the saw table. Delivered raw materials—mostly panels of varying sizes and weights—no longer have to be lifted to the height of the saw table by the employee's muscle power.

A good practical example for carpenters to increase productivity and protect the health of employees can be found in panel cutting, which is already being used in the workshop for disabled people, the Hagsfelder Werkstätten in Karlsruhe.

The Beck work table supports employees with a 2,000 x 1,500 mm tabletop and a maximum load capacity of 4,000 kg. Using manual controls, the electric drive moves the table level precisely to the height of the saw as required. The controls are intuitive and designed to prevent confusion. Since many blank panels are delivered without pallets, the metal worktop has been equipped with solid square timbers. These ensure smooth delivery with a forklift truck even without pallets.

Although there are no relevant specifications from the employers' liability insurance associations and no injuries caused by the scissor mechanism have been reported to date, the lift table can also be completely covered in the area under the work table. This is to ensure that no one can interfere with this area or stand completely in this area. Reinhold Beck Maschinenbau GmbH solved this problem with a surrounding apron that completely encloses the area, a so-called chain mail. A metal grid consisting of several segments was selected for this special solution. The individual parts are connected to each other in such a way that they allow unrestricted upward and downward movement. The grid elements remain completely closed in every position.

The integration of the height-adjustable TS4000 work table from the TL series with chain mail and adjustable base frame has made working on the panel saw significantly easier, gentler, and safer.
